This thesis will analyze how to stimulate and develop students’ interest in learning English。  Just like an old saying goes, teaching has rules, but teaching never has fixed rules。 Nevertheless, the choice of teaching methods should be based on actual learning situation of students, and teachers should choose subjective and objective teaching methods。 Teachers also ought to get rid of old teaching modes, which is often called cramming and daunted。 It is imperative to pay attention to stimulate students’ interest in the course of teaching。

2。 Literature Review

How to cultivate students’ interest in learning is an enduring research topic, which has very rich research results and information both at home and abroad。 Many psychologists and educators have shown that interest plays an important role in learning activities。 Interest research is an old topic。 Ancient philosopher Socrates once proposed Socratic Method。 This method is in line with teaching laws and can stimulate learners’ interest。 Plato is the earliest advocator of combine learning with games。 He advocates that teachers should organize teaching games which obey children’s natural interest。 Aristotle also claims the importance of study interest。 Because in all the human being’s living, happiness is the final purpose。 Generally speaking, ancient Greeks’ education views pave the way for the research of interest。论文网

Interest is the greatest motivation for people to study, which can stimulate the desire for knowledge to a large extent and promote the active participation and of students, there is a connection with the students’ learning achievements inevitably (Brown 44)。Strong interest in learning can stimulate curiosity, enhance students’ initiative and enthusiasm, and easy to overcome difficulties。 Because of the curiosity and novelty to the students, they are all full of interest in learning English at first, but with the in-depth study and the increase of the capacity of knowledge and difficulties, the students will be afraid of learning English, thus they will lose interest in English (Richards 90)。 In addition, it analyzes that interest is the greatest motivation to study in the stimulation of child’s interest at the initial stage of English learning。 If teachers want to cultivate students’ interest in learning English and keep it for a long time, it is necessary for them to have a high degree of educational responsibility and pay attention to every student and every working link。 What’s more, explored that teachers should be good at arousing students’ interest and allow them to experience the fun of learning English。 As we all know, English is widely used in daily life, it is beneficial to study English well for future development, and mobilize the enthusiasm of students and ultimately improve the efficiency of English teaching in middle schools。

Subsequently, many educationists all pay great attention to interest research。 Naturalistic educationists, Comenius and Rousseau think that interest is human’s natural quality and children’s interest should be cultivated during teaching。 Comenius points out that without making students and teachers feel confused。 This book is a pleasant art。 Education needs to adapt to the nature and draw students to study unconsciously。 As to teaching principles, he proposes concrete teaching rules to provoke students learning desire, and encourages teachers to try to stimulate students’ interest (Comenius 55)。 Rousseau sets cultivating students’ interest as a purpose of naturalistic education。 He asserts that education should be in accordance with nature, put them in a dominant role, respect their need and interest, and give them enough opportunities to develop themselves。 He thinks interest is much more important than knowledge。 Teaching children’s to be interested in knowledge is much significant than teaching knowledge itself。 Interest is the impulse of children’s behavior, and cultivating interest is the basic principle of any good education。 (Rousseau 116)文献综述
