摘要阅读教学在中学英语教学中占有重要地位,阅读能力的培养也是英语教学的重中之重。然而,中学英语阅读教学中存在着阅读模式单一、词汇量少和学生阅读速度慢等问题。为了解决中学英语阅读教学中存在的问题,本论文从教育体制、教师、学生和文化背景四个方面分析了中学英语阅读教学中问题形成的原因,说明了学习策略对英语学习的帮助,并提出了相应的解决问题的方法。本研究有助于解决中学英语阅读教学中存在的问题,从而帮助中学英语教师更好地进行阅读教学。40808

Abstract Reading teaching plays an important role in English teaching in middle school and one of the ultimate goals of English teaching is to improve students’ reading ability. However, there are many problems appearing in junior middle school about English reading teaching, sure as single reading modes, lack of English vocabulary and slow reading speed. In order to solve the problems that exist in reading teaching in junior middle school English, this paper analyzes the causes of the problems in English reading teaching in junior middle school from four different aspects: the educational system, the teacher, the student and the cultural background. And then this paper introduces the effect of four learning theories in English reading teaching, and gives the corresponding answers. This paper aims to solve the problems in English reading teaching in junior middle school and help English teachers to teach English reading efficiently in junior middle school.

I. Introduction

English has become a tool for international communication all around the world. However, Chinese people’s achievement in English learning is not ideal. Every year, thousands of people begin to learn English as their second language in China. And the majority of them are junior middle school students. Nowadays, English is playing an increasing important role in every aspect of China’s economy, society, activity, work, and especially in education. As is known to us all, reading is the basis of language learning. Students want to English well, they must learn English reading very carefully. The overall goal of education is to offer learners with chance where they can obtain basic knowledge of the world. Reading is the key way for junior middle school students to expand their knowledge and their outlook, developing their interest and hobby as well as gain the ability for continuous. Most of English learners all over the world are Chinese, but only a few of them can be considered as success in English learning. Generally speaking, the majority of Chinese students start to learn English from grade 3 in primary school, but when they learn English in junior middle school, they cannot use English very well in their daily life. In this way, many Chinese students have less chance to engage in a series of listening and speaking activities in English in their daily life. Actually, they have good luck to get an amount of materials to learn English as their second learning. Therefore, reading is becoming the biggest obstacle for them to learn English well. In fact, most of them will continue to live and work in an environment where people talk about in Chinese. What they need most is the ability to read English books or reference books involving their majors with a dictionary at hand. The training of reading strategies may be a way to improve students’ reading ability and mental horizons.
