Abstract Documentary as one of categories of film and television works, play an increasingly significant role in cultural exchange. The subtitle and subtitle translation of English documentary have its own characteristics. English subtitle translation is a special cross-cultural communication activity, its main purpose is to transmit the authentic and effective information to the target audiences who have their own unique background, making the cultural information carried by documentary faithfully reappeared and reflected.

Functionalist Skopos theory holds that translation is a purposeful communicative activity, translating practice should focus on the target-text’s function and practicability. The anticipated purpose of the translation decides translation methods and strategies, and the translator should choose translation strategies according to the needs of target language. Based on the Skopos theory, the present paper studies the translation strategies used in the documentary subtitle of Wild China, which co-produced by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and China Central Television (CCTV), drawing on numerous examples of subtitles, the translation strategies are analyzed and pided into different groups. This study expects to provide subtitle translators some references for their practical translation activities, and to attract much translator’s attention toward subtitles translation of documentary film in our country, with a view to create better subtitles so that documentary film can make better service in the process of cultural exchange and communication.41985

摘要纪录片作为影视作品的一种类型，在文化交流中起着重要作用。纪录片的字幕的呈现和翻译有其自身的特点，英文纪录片的字幕翻译是一种跨文化的交际活动，主要目的是将真实有效的信息传递给特定文化背景的目标观众，使纪录片所承载的文化信息得到真实再现。

功能主义翻译目的论认为，翻译活动是带有目的性的，注重目的性和实用性，翻译方法和策略的选取决定于翻译的目的，译者需根据目的语的不同需要而采取不同的翻译策略。本论文以翻译目的理论为视角，探讨BBC和中央电视台合作拍摄的纪录片《Wild China》（《美丽中国》）纪录片中字幕翻译，通过选取不同字幕案例，对其翻译策略进行了分析和归类研究。本论文的研究，笔者期待能够为字幕翻译者的翻译实践提供一些参考，更希望越来越多的人关注纪录片的字幕翻译，创作更好的字幕，使纪录片为文化传播与交流更好地服务。
