At this moment, in the previous studies of English cyber-neologism, new research methods and perspectives like cognition, metaphor and pragmatics continue to pour out. It is greatly significant to understand and master knowledge concerned about English cyber-neologism. What’s more, English cyber-neologism is of greatly realistic and theoretical significance for the sound development, language teaching as well as lexicography.
1.2 Research Design
This paper mainly examines English cyber-neologism and its influence on Chinese language. As one of the three elements of language, vocabulary is the most sensitive to the fast change. English neologism, distributed in many areas, is a mirror of social development, and the source of its improvement comes from the rapid development of the unceasingly changing environment of science, education, culture, technology and politics.
Based on the literature review of the study of English cyber-neologism, this paper attempts to describe the brief definition, formation, characteristics, as well as the trends of English cyber-neologism. Then, after a brief analysis, this paper gives some representative examples about the influence of English cyber-neologism on Chinese language. From a holistic perspective, this paper places much more emphasis on the influence that English cyber-neologism brings about. As the study about English cyber-neologism is very scanty, this paper carves out a new way on the study of English cyber-neologism.
However, little attention has been paid to the study of English cyber-neologism especially of its influence on Chinese language. Therefore, this thesis analyses the previous studies about English cyber-neologism and generalizes a conclusion about the influence that English cyber-neologism has on Chinese. Most of the neologism samples in this paper come from the neologism thesaurus in wordspy.com.
