Abstract Nowadays, there are numerous novels and movies about ghost culture and vampire culture, which not only cause people’s interest in ghost culture, but stimulate their curiosities about ghost culture. To understand the ghost culture better, people take comparison of Chinese ghost culture and western vampire culture. Regarding Chinese ghost culture and western vampire culture as the main objects, this paper uses the methods of correlation and analysis to contrast the similarities and differences between the two cultures, and analyze the reasons for the differences of the two cultures. By showing the similarities and differences in the concepts of ghost culture between China and the West, this paper aims to reveal the differences in ideas and values of the Chinese and the western, and promote international cross-cultural communication and cooperation.

I. Introduction

Ghost culture is an important part of human social culture, which has rich cultural connotations, because it is the product of human activities and is accompanied by the emergence of the human. Ghost culture is a peculiar cultural phenomenon in human history and it has the characteristics of mystery, horror, fantasy, imagination and fun. With the development of the history, ghost culture has experienced a process of constant enrichment, variation, and renewal. Throughout the process, people find that each ghost culture presents striking feature which is fundamentally different from other regions because of the particularity of its background. All the nations in the world have a history of the origins of history, literature, academic records about the ghost culture. In our real life, there is no such thing as ghosts. But as a kind of special spiritual magic, ghost does exist in the minds of some people. Ghosts and gods are created by people who don't understand themselves, complex natural phenomena or the nature of religion with social and political attributes. Even though science advances, ghost culture is still settling in the hearts of the modern people. Meanwhile, there are a lot of phenomena, religious beliefs, consciousness and social customs, and habits related to ghost culture have exist in people’s real life.
