However, the difficulty and requirement of interpreting make many people afraid of it and thus give up。 I myself is an English major who have the interest on this field and I have took some causes in university。 The current methods to learn interpreting are generally as follows: take the translation skills as the basement and learn the interpreting theories, then do numerous practices, which requires the interpreters to digest boring pieces of materials over and over again。 

And for the researches which have been done, the literature reviews are as follows: Translation is always a big topic for researchers to study。 And numerous researches have been studied before。 Camelia Petrescu (2013) summarizes the teaching methods of interpreting as follows: processing of meaning, Communicative awareness, Fidelity and manipulation in ınterpreting, the interpreter as a speaker’s trainer。 And this, of course, is good for a professional interpreter to learn interpreting step by step。  While some researchers and also teachers like Mihaela Visky (2014) have already take subtitling as a method to teach interpreting。 They indicated that their approach is not new。 A number of teachers have already used it in teaching translation or interpretation techniques or enriching their students’ foreign language knowledge。 But they believe that their experience as translators, interpreters, subtitlers and teachers helps them to provide pertinent solutions adjusted to the reality of the fields they translate from。 There are universities that include subtitling in their foreign language study programmes or have subtitling laboratories that are used in translation and interpreting departments。 In their opinion, if used moderately and by skilled professionals, subtitling may become an effective tool for learning and building communication competences。 Subtitling is the point where translation and interpretation meet, “a written discourse turned oral”, a balance between the two。

Besides, some researches (e。g。Valentina Shiryaeva,2014; Georgiana Lungu Badea,2014) studied the transfer of culture-specific words in subtitling。 These researches stressed the difficulty of subtitling as in interpreting。 And as I have mentioned in the former part, there are similarities and differences between subtitling and interpreting。

However, the use of dubbing and subtitling to teach translation and interpreting is still lack of systematic and theoretical research and plenty samples。

From the review above, we know although a lot of studies have been done separately on movie translation and learning translation, not very much researches combined these two topics together and research the use of dubbing and subtitling in learning translation and interpreting between Chinese and English。 Since movie is a kind of most popular mass media in China, dubbing and subtitling themselves should be paid more attention。 Let along that translation and interpreting are such big issues。

In conclusion, my thesis will conduct a deep and comprehensive study on the characteristics of movie translation and pay more attention on the similarities and differences between movie translation and interpreting。 Thus be clearer about how to adapt using subtitling to learning interpreting。

1。1。3 Personal motivation

I myself is an English major, and I have the intention to learning interpreting well since I like communicating with people and the knowledge of English。 I now have been an English teacher in a middle school, but I still would like to take some interpreting jobs when I have the free time。 Cause the interpreting work requires the knowledge of English of all kinds, which can push me to fulfill myself further more。 When it comes to the movie translation, especially for the subtitling, I have the curiosity on this field for my preference of imported movies especially from America and other English-speaking countries。 Then, after I have the ability to grasp the meaning of the origin audio track, I am used to think about the use of the Chinese subtitle, considering about its accuracy and entertain effect。
