In recent years, links between China and several outside countries are getting more and more pyknomorphic。 At the same time, Chinese government is active to attract foreign tourists and foreign investment。 Meanwhile, these measures have brought the huge challenge to the Chinese government and citizens, so the intention is to provide beautiful and sound environments for all kinds of aspects of people’s daily life。 Consequently, to endow proper tourism information and appropriate introduction of Chinese culture for international tourists when they are traveling in China is of great importance。 Fortunately, for building and promoting a good nation’s image, Chinese central government and local government have released a set of rules and regulations of the bilingual public signs, which are interpreted both in Chinese and English。 However, due to some reasons, public signs translation doesn’t always work well and its quality is often doubted。

In order to enhance the quality of translation, the majority of researchers are seeking to find forward-looking translations or translations of own reasons。 In the issue, in several situations of translations, translators consider their translation achievements are excellent, but these achievements often not adopt by foreign friends。 It is the highly time we reckon new ways to solve these problems-the receptors’ responses。 

Since China has adopted a reform and opening-up policy from the last century, the enthusiasm for cooperation between China and the rest of the world has increased more rapidly than ever。 Under this international background, a higher degree of responsibility is proposed for requirements in communication and transmission for the information and culture。 The author notices that the wrong English translation of public signs poses a large part of incorrect translation of public signs in China。 Those errors may not only cause misunderstandings but also spoil the international image of a city or even a country。 Therefore, studying and improving the English translation of public signs is as soon as possible。文献综述

II。 An Introduction to the Public Signs and Receptor-Oriented Theories 

As can be seen in different areas of life, the usage of public signs is quite broad。 Public signs can be seen everywhere around every aspect of our daily life, for instance, places to hostel in, places to have fun, place to visit, and some other places。 With the ever speeding pace of globalization, more and more foreign friends have access to come to China for visits, businesses, educations, etc。 naturally, public signs somehow come into the being of the missionary of great Chinese culture。 However, as a matter of fact, some foreign friends are always shrouded in confusions of public signs with a lot of Chinese-English translation problem。 Firstly, few attentions have been put into the Chinese-English translation of public signs。 Besides, correct translations of public signs are not simple jobs to do, for they should deal with cultural differences。

2。1 Definition of Public Signs

As we can see, public signs have covered all respects of our everyday life。 For examples, signs in restaurants, signs in hotels, signs in parks, signs in supermarkets and in tourist attractions。 There is no denying that public signs are of vital importance in our everyday life。 Also public signs boast a special and persuasive form and an inviting and interesting tone。 Should public signs be expressed in different levels as words, phrases or sentences, they are of great importance。

2。2 Features of Public Signs

    By their special features, public signs bear differences with other forms of language。 Apart from some common characteristics public signs have, we can find other features that mark public signs as language and they should be considered while translating。 As is known to all, every language should possess its own different style, so should public signs。
